Evidence-based Chinese medicine guidelines for menopause management
A group of clinicians from Hong Kong has released an evidence-based Chinese medicine (CM) guideline for menopause management. The guideline identified seven types of menopausal syndrome based on expert consensus and traditional CM literature. To alleviate symptoms, thirteen herbal formulas and Chinese patent medicines were recommended, including Kuntai Capsule, Ling Lian Hua Granules, Kun Bao Pill, Di Zhen Granules, Geng Nian An Capsules and Jia Rong tablets. Systematic reviews supported the use of acupuncture for menopausal syndrome, and after two rounds of expert consensus, four major acupoints were recommended for treatment: Sanyinjiao SP-6, Taixi KID-3, Taichong LIV-3 and Zusanli ST-36.
